This book of abstracts brings together almost all of the papers and virtual presentations of the International Congress “The Future of Rural Europe” (October 18, 2019), which brought together a group of researchers from the social sciences, specialists in fields of knowledge such as cultural heritage, rural development, the socio-cultural specificity of rurality, the demographic challenge, cultural tourism and others. In addition to the presentations, the congress hosted round tables with rural managers – mayors, presidents of associations of municipalities – which provided an opportunity to learn about the problems faced by disadvantaged rural areas in the congress region, Extremadura, from the point of view of public management, although these problems are common to other regions of Europe and the world.
